Gumball Rally 2002

The Gumball Rally was held June 8th 2002. Everybody gathered for a group photo then got down to the serious business of having fun. The registration table signed everybody up after verifying licenses, insurance, tags, and results from the vehicle safety inspections. Seven driver/navigator teams left Martin Supply Company in downtown Jackson at 1-minute intervals. We caught some of the teams as they left. We've got John, Israel and his wife, Billy and his sons, Fred and Colette, and Chuck and Jonathan.

Each team followed a set of rally instructions that were close to standards used by the SCAA for "gimmick rallys". That is, time and speed was not measured. Instead, everybody had to answer a series of questions about landmarks found along the 50-mile rally route. Participants were instructed to obey all traffic laws.

The route quickly moved into the countryside and followed a series of backroads west near the Jackson Airport, north through the edge of Gadsden, then back southeast towards north Jackson where it ended in the back parking lot of BackYard Burgers. What would a Gumball Rally be without Gumball Machine Trophies!

Everybody then went to an all-Mopar cruise-in at Sonic which was part of an ongoing serious of cruises organized by MMCT that Summer. Everybody had a great time and we hope to have more rallys in the future. Perhaps they'll be done by meeting early then taking an alternate route to another event such as a picnic? Oh... The finish was interesting, but you'd have to ask Greg and Israel about that (evil grin).
